SECRETARY'S WELCOME

Sanjay Kolte

Secretary-General, Asian Society of Transplantation

Societies and organisations are evolved conglomerations of individuals created to capture and amplify benefits of combined efforts; much beyond mere self interests. Successful societies enable interaction, introspection, system-building, norms-setting and increased productivity through judicious use of pooled resources. Organ transplantation too is a multistep, multicomponent procedure brought about by synchronised and collective efforts of a group of professionals. A strong association for its professionals is thus a necessary imperative.
Founded in 1981, the Asian Society of Transplantation represents the world’s largest continent with a culturally diverse consortium of member nations. To foster innovation and growth, it needs a highly motivated, affectionate and inclusive fellowship amongst its members. The past five decades have seen the AST exist with peaceful and steady cohesion. However, much more needs to be done to see its potential manifest in full flourish. Regular interactions and educative meetings are a crucial step in this direction. Fortunately these are easier than ever today, thanks to the universal availability of social media and online meeting platforms.
I appeal to all practitioners of transplant to become members of AST, contribute effusively and enjoy benefits of mutual cooperation.

Coming together is a beginning,
Keeping together is progress
AND
Working together is success.
